Our Apartments are to be found in the charming mediaeval village of Apella itself. They have been fully restored in keeping with the area, using local materials. They are located in the two complexes of “Borgo Antico” (the Old Village) and “Il Castagneto Apella” (The Apella Chestnut Grove), the latter being finished in May 2014.
This accommodation is in properties belonging to the old manor house, inhabited for centuries by peasant families, including the family and relatives of Mario Maffei, the current owner of Montagna Verde. From the end of the 1800’s to postwar they were increasingly abandoned due to emigration, a fate which befell all the villages of the Apennines.
Today the village of Apella has Montagna Verde accommodation scattered throughout it. The “Cà della Sciora”, “Cà di Barotto” and the “Cà dei Santi”. are located among other houses in the village where local people still live.
Ours is an innovative model of diffuse hospitality “Albergo Diffuso”, a sort of “virtual hotel”, but which is all centrally managed by Montagna Verde. Here we offer tourists an authentic experience: the lifestyle of a rural village where they are in constant contact with its inhabitants and the local agricultural activities of Apella.
The apartments are in a style which is typical of rural Lunigiana.
The architectural, structural and functional restoration of our properties has been carried out in accordance with an integrated design, following technical and construction principles geared to lower energy consumption and protection of the environment.
All furnishings are in simple, country style. Basic but functional. The apartment kitchens are equipped with cooking utensils to prepare meals, as well as appliances such as refrigerators, freezers, cooker hobs and ovens, and, in some cases, a dishwasher.
Washing machines for guests’ laundry are also available in public areas.
Bed linen and towels are included (no tablecloths and napkins). These are changed weekly or at the end of your stay, unless otherwise requested and agreed.
Free wireless Internet connection is provided in all accommodation and also in the other main shared areas such as the swimming pool, the “sun” terraces and the relaxation room.
Not far from the apartments, we have created our “Chestnut Garden”, an informal area for our guests, with outdoor tables, wooden benches, a large barbecue and stone pizza oven. There is also a children’s play area .
For those who choose the self-catering option, preferring to provide their own meals using the kitchens in the apartments, it is still possible to book a hearty breakfast with us if you wish. This is served in the “Torre” or, in spring and summer, in the village breakfast room in the nearby “Cà della Sciora”. Lunches and dinners can also be booked in our main restaurant in the ancient Tower, about 800 m from the village.
Our guests can also use, at no additional cost, organic vegetables from our Casa Nardi Garden which can be found close to the accommodation in the village.
There is a small shop “emporio” with essential foodstuffs and other products within Montagna Verde. Convenience stores, shops, butchers etc are located a few kilometres away, in Tavernelle Licciana Nardi and Aulla.
Bread can be booked and purchased directly in the village. It is made by local bakers and delivered each morning by van. A “beep” on the horn alerts everybody to its arrival.
In Aulla, near the motorway exit, and at Masero, less than 20 km from Apella, there are large shopping centres. At Monti (about 15 km away), Comano (8 km) and Masero there are also pharmacies and post offices.
Emergency medical services are at Aulla – call 118.
