The Breakfast Rooms

At Montagna Verde we have two breakfast rooms, one in the main building ie the monastery-tower, and another in Apella itself. This is for the ease and convenience of our visitors who may be staying in either location.

The breakfast room in the village is adjacent to our organic honey and chestnut flour processing area, and also has a small area given over to selling and tasting these products. It is situated in one of the old manor house properties, which dates back to 1600. This has now been converted into accommodation with both rooms and small apartments, our “Cà della Sciora”, with its beautiful vaulted ceilings, exposed stone and terracotta floor.

The breakfast room is connected to a panoramic terrace area, which has a vaulted stone section, and is the perfect place to start the day and have breakfast in spring and summer. It overlooks the roofs of the village of Apella and the wonderful Apuan Alps, and is infused with the perfume of our many orchards and vegetable gardens. Our home grown produce is available to guests as well as inhabitants of the village, for those wishing to enjoy fresh organic fruit and vegetables during their stay on a “pick your own” basis.

The breakfast room located in the monastery Tower was the first to be opened back in 1995, after renovation of what was the old hay barn of the monastery. It connects directly to the restaurant on the ground floor and is near the kitchen, from which emerges a sensational, almost-forgotten perfume of a time long ago, which both tempts the appetite and creates the desire to discover and taste the traditional dishes of our heritage.

In spring and summer, breakfast is served on the panoramic terrace in front of the breakfast room, and in the garden with views of verdant mountains and the valley. Here breakfast is indeed a great pleasure as well as a moment of deep relaxation.

What better way to start the day? Our fantastic chef prepares delicious cakes and biscuits daily which, along with bread baked in a wood-burning oven, fresh ricotta and a selection of our jams, created using our fruit as it becomes available throughout the year – plus organic honey from our hives – cannot fail to improve the day and remind us of the sweetness of yesteryear.

Also available if you wish, are cheese and cold meats, eggs from our own hens, fresh seasonal fruit and vegetables from the garden, as well as fresh yogurts and cereals. That is, all that is necessary for the best possible start to the day and a first step towards discovering what is so special about this place.
